Anne Warren Weston still considers Amos Augustus Phelps "as a Brother beloved." Reports going to Weymouth in his company, and the opposition there to his preaching and lecturing. In spite of the original plan of Jonas Perkins, a Weymouth minister, to keep Mr. Phelps out of the pulpit, the latter finally preached in the afternoon "a very lovely sermon." In the evening he lectured on slavery, saying "that he would as soon admit a highway robber to his pulpit as a slaveholder." During Anne's absence the Board meeting was held and Mrs. Maria Weston Chapman's report was accepted. "Mary [S.] Parker seemed almost ready to despair but she is ... herself again. The rest of the Board are firm." Tells in detail how Mrs. Chapman succeeded in having a notice read by the Rev. [William B. O.?] Peabody in Dr. Channing's church. Anne reports on Caroline Weston's health and her own health, and fears that she will not be able to go out in the evening this winter. Richard Hildreth is presumably in Washington as correspondent for the Atlas. Garrison is going to Groton to lecture. Although Anne has "such unbounded confidence in Bro. Phelps" she wishes Deborah Weston to observe his doings well. Anne describes a meeting in the Free Church "in which Deacon [John] Gulliver used his influence to prevent any action being taken against the [Clerical] Appeal."
